I spoke with promoter Eric Champoux after the event about his pick for Fight of the Night, how the new setting compared to Club Soda, his thoughts on an Ontario fighter winning the main event, what would cause him to close up shop, what the UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce means for Ringside, and much more.*

*Correction: It’s been pointed out to me that my statement concerning Y. Gariépy (2-3) no longer being able to fight at Rising Star because Saturday was his 5th fight is incorrect.  Fighters are allowed up to 5 fights going into a card.  I had previously understood that a fighter’s 5th match was the last with the promotion.
