Weigh-ins for Ringside 12 took place earlier this afternoon at the Cage aux Sports restaurant located within the Bell Centre, where Friday’s ten-fight event will take place.
British headliner Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley, a former UFC Welterweight who has missed weight at least four times since 2010, came in on target, hitting 170.4 pounds on his first try. Speaking to media yesterday afternoon, Daley indicated he’d be cutting from about 210 pounds, though the figure seems unlikely.
Daley was last seen in Montreal delivering his infamous post-fight sucker-punch against Josh Koschek (16-5) at UFC 113 in May 2010. Since being cut from the UFC, he’s kept busy, going 5-2, most notably losing a Strikeforce title fight to Nick Diaz (25-7) in April.
His opponent for Friday, nine-time UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti (170.4 lbs) will look to end his current two fight losing streak. The American Top Team representative last fought in June, dropping a decision to Joe Doerksen (47-16) in Ontario.
Twenty fighters hit the scale in total, with only Matt MacGrath missing his contracted weight by 2.8 pounds.
Featherweight champion Mitch Gagnon (136.0 lbs), successfully dropped down to his 136 pound catchweight, as did his American opponent David ‘Bo’ Harris (136.8 lbs), who stepped in to replace injured Bantamweight champion Stephane Pelletier.
Montreal’s Mike Ricci (155.0 lbs), last seen recovering from his 2010 knockout loss to Pat Curran (16-4) at Bellator 14 with a TKO in April at Ringside 10, will challenge Michigan’s Daron Cruickshank (154.8 lbs) in a five-round fight for the vacant RS Lightweight title. Former champion Guillaume Delorenzi (9-1) was stripped of the belt as a result of his lengthy injury-related layoff. Extending his hand for a shake after stepping off the scale, Cruickshank was rebuffed by Ricci, who chose not to reciprocate the friendly gesture.
Highly touted Tristar Welterweight prospect Alex Garcia (171.0 lbs), will also be in action, looking to bounce back from his first career loss, a TKO against the UFC’s Seth Baczynski at Ringside 10. He’ll face the tough 10-6 Canadian veteran Matt MacGrath (173.8 lbs), who missed weight, and will be fined 20 per cent of his fight purse as a result. MacGrath’s last four losses have come against UFC vets, including Claude Patrick (14-1) and the recently retired Kalib Starnes (12-7).
Ringside 12 marks the organization’s second visit to the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, after April’s Ringside 10.
