UGC 28 weigh-in results: Taleb, Spisak, and Galindo all on target (w/ photos)

Zahabi/Tristar prospect Nordine Taleb (175 lbs, 4-1) headlines the MMA portion of the UGC 28 event.

Weigh-ins for Saturday’s UGC 28 took place this afternoon at the Ness Martial Arts Academy, located in the Saint-Michel district in Montreal East.

Sixteen of the eighteen fighters hit their contracted weight, including eleven of the twelve mixed martial artists on the card. The event, taking place at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, also features three boxing bouts.

Last seen landing a 1st round head kick KO in June, highly touted Tristar/Zahabi MMA welterweight Nordine Taleb (175 lbs, 4-1) will headline the MMA portion of the card against the little known Szymon Boniecki (169 lbs, 2-1) in a catchweight bout at 175 lbs. The fight will be Boniecki’s first outside of his native Poland.

Loyd Galindo (153 lbs, left) and Matthew Spisak (154 lbs, right) both made weight for their UGC lightweight title fight Saturday.

In a title fight for the vacant UGC lightweight title, Matthew Spisak (154 lbs, 4-3), currently riding a three fight win streak, faces Loyd Galindo (153 lbs, 1-2), last seen losing by rear-naked choke to Daylin Logan at Ringside 7 after being hit with illegal knees on the ground. The opponents shared the weigh-in’s most intense stare down.

In other action, featherweight Seiji Sugiman-Marangos (144 lbs, 4-1), originally set to take part in September’s cancelled One FC event, returns to Montreal to face Alex Jeffrey (144 lbs, 1-0), who made his pro debut at UGC 27 with a position dominant decision.

Fresh off a 24-second KO win just three weeks ago at Freedom Fight 4, Ottawa’s Christopher St-Jean (169 lbs, 4-2) will take on Anthony Doolitle (169 lbs, 0-1), who looks to rebound after being utterly dominated by Jason Courchesne in his pro debut.

Because UGC events also feature boxing, the MMA bouts take place in a ring instead of a cage.

Here are the complete weigh-in results. Per the request of promoter Ali Nestor Charles, values past the decimal point were not announced or recorded by the Regie des Alcools des Courses, et des Jeux (Quebec’s athletic commission) at the weigh-in.
