Beauport, Qc – Ringside 11‘s weigh-in took place before a packed crowd this afternoon at a Boston Pizza ten minutes from the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, where tomorrow night eight fights will go down. All 16 fighters who stepped onto the scale made their contracted weights.
Fans were treated to an intense staredown between main-eventers Patrick ‘the Predator’ Côté (189.0 lbs, 14-7) and Todd ‘Bulldog’ Brown (188.8 lbs, 15-3). Posing nose-to-nose for their picture, things got physical as the fighters began pushing each other, with Côté eventually slapping Brown, while twice telling him he’s too old for the sport.
After gaining a decision victory over Kalib Starnes (12-6-1) at Ringside 10 in April, his first since 2008, Côté continues his quest Saturday night to get back into the UFC. His opponent Brown was recently cut from the organization after suffering his second consecutive loss in March at UFC Live 3.
Coming off two wins this year at Rising Star 1, and 3, Val d’Or’s Stéphane Pelletier (134.2 lbs, 4-1) will lock horns with the more experienced Dimitri Waardenburg (133.6 lbs, 7-4), currently riding a five fight win-streak. The winner will become Ringside’s first bantamweight champion.
Former NHL enforced Donald Brashear (238.4 lbs, 0-0), who’s signing created a flurry of international media coverage for Ringside, will also make his MMA debut on the card, against fellow heavyweight Mathieu Bergeron (262.6 lbs, 0-0).
A fight pitting two Canadian MMA warhorses is also on tap. Marcus Hicks (205.4 lbs, 10-20), winner of only two of his last 13 fights, faces off against Yan Pellerin (205.8 lbs, 9-12), last seen two years ago being TKOed in the 1st round by Steve Bossé at Ringside 1.
A ninth scheduled bout between Daniel Ireland and Francis Charbonneau was cancelled after Charbonneau passed out in the sauna while cutting weight overnight, forcing him to pull out on short notice.
