Word has just arrived that Major Fight League’s 4th fight card due to take place Saturday night has been cancelled. The reason given in a press release was that a multitude of fighter injuries have left the promotion without time to find suitable replacements.
The card was going to be headlined by the return of former XMMA light-heavyweight champion Martin ‘The Stress’ Desilets (11-2) to Quebec competition after two years. He was set to face French fighter Antony Rea (20-13).
Earlier this week came word that co-main event fighter Steve Vigneault (12-6) had been forced to withdraw from the card due to injury (lower body according to his brother Stephane). Had he fought, it would have marked only the second fight for the Quebec MMA pioneer since a 2006 loss to Mike Swick at UFC 58, the Quebec fighter’s only appearance with the organization.
The cancellation follows the Major Fight League’s troubled third card last September, where main-eventer Gary Goodridge pulled out his bout the evening of the fight due to a pay dispute with the promoter Dirk Waardenburg.
Tickets that have been bought can be reimbursed at the point of purchase. I’ll update this if I find out more.
