With UFC 126 going down this Saturday in Las Vegas, ‘Downtown’ Dave Brown is back to offer his picks for the card’s three main fights. Check out a video of the awesome weigh-in stare down at the bottom of the post.
Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort
This is the first time that Anderson will be dealing with an advanced striker at 185 since fighting Rich Franklin in October 2007. Anderson has looked less than convincing at middleweight for the better part of two years and I think that his streak is coming to an end. Vitor is fast, powerful, and experienced. I doubt Anderson will be able to trick him with his sneaky Jiu-Jitsu and may not be ready for Vitor to come in like a mad man. Vitor wins by TKO in round 2.
Rich Franklin vs. Forrest Griffin
This is a very difficult fight to call. Both fighters have a strong standup game. Franklin is probably a little more technical than Griffin, but probably not as durable. This fight also has the potential to be a real snooze fest. Both fighters are coming off injuries and may be tentative. Griffin wins by decision.
Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones
Ryan Bader has allot more to prove than Jon Jones. Bader’s victory over “Little Nog” was less than impressive, whereas Jones blows people away everytime. Bader might be a better wrestler, but Jones is a better athlete. Bader has to close the distance and I’m not convinced he can handle the throws that Jones uses from the clinch. We haven’t really seen either fighter put on their back, so that remains a huge question mark for both. The Jones train is going to continue to roll, Jones wins by TKO in round 1.
Great stare down between Silva and Belfort Friday evening at the weigh-ins!
